Policies and Procedures

The Guild is a charitable association governed by a Council elected by its members, which oversees management and administration. It adheres to standards set by the Charities Commission, the UKCP, and the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis.

Activities are managed by committees and led by honorary officers, member representatives, and student representatives, elected annually. The Guild operates under a comprehensive set of guidelines, including its Constitution, Code of Ethics, and Diversity and Equality Statement.

Continuing professional development

The Guild of Psychotherapists upholds public safety through its Code of Ethics, Complaints Procedure, and a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) policy. CPD ensures therapists maintain and improve their skills, staying current in psychoanalytic theory and practice. Practitioners are required to reflect on their development, considering their professional strengths and areas for growth, individually and with peers. This process is regularly monitored through a random audit.

Making a complaint

To file a complaint against a Guild member who is also part of UKCP, follow the UKCP’s complaint procedure via their website: UKCP Complaints. For complaints against Guild-only members, trainees, or students, refer to the downloadable guidelines provided on The Guild’s website.
